Volkswagen’s self-driving e-shuttles — coming to Amsterdam next?
Volkswagen has revealed its most advanced autonomous vehicle yet: the fully electric, self-driving ID.Buzz AD. In Hamburg, the vehicle is already navigating city traffic entirely on its own, without driver intervention.
Built from the ground up for autonomy, the ID.Buzz integrates lidar, cameras, radar systems, and real-time data feeds from other Volkswagens in the area. AI powers its decision-making in real-time, enabling safe navigation through complex urban conditions.
Unlike earlier attempts in the US, where companies like Cruise faced setbacks, Volkswagen’s subsidiary Moia focuses on deep software-hardware integration, robust environmental sensing, and regulatory alignment.
Their goal: large-scale deployment of autonomous shuttles in European cities within two years.
Dutch importer Pon has expressed strong interest in bringing the system to Amsterdam. For a city focused on sustainable, tech-driven mobility, it could mark the next major step in urban transport innovation.
