UvA and NFI open forensic research lab 'AI4forensics'
UvA and NFI open AI4forensics lab for pioneering forensic investigation with artificial intelligence
The University of Amsterdam (UvA) and the Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI) have opened a research lab focused on artificial intelligence (AI) for forensics. The AI4forensics lab will employ four PhD students and a postdoc who will conduct research into AI's application in forensic evidence, including speaker recognition, facial comparisons, and tracing criminal money flows. The lab will also investigate whether the sensors in mobile phones and smartwatches can be used to identify individuals' activities. The lab's opening has been described as an important milestone for the field of AI for forensics, and it is expected to help the NFI and UvA collaborate on innovative solutions for the forensic field.
