Together we fix the internet!

How can we bring public values back into the Internet, and what can you yourself contribute to this?
The next kick-off session will take place online on 28 September from 10h30-12h00. The closing session will take place on 21 November from 15h00-17h00 at Waag FutureLab in Amsterdam Nieuwmarkt.
Today's internet is broken. A handful of Big Tech companies dominate the market. Legislation lags behind, while civil and human rights increasingly deteriorate due to surveillance capitalism's unchecked intrusion into public and personal spaces. The problems facing the Internet are systemic and complex, but they can also be overcome.
'Together We Fix the Internet' addresses the key problems facing the Internet and suggests alternative approaches to solving it. Students completing the course will become familiar with the Internet's historical trajectory to the present; they will learn about a variety of practical approaches to building open, fair and inclusive technology; and they will be equipped with theoretical and practical knowledge to make judgements about what technology they can use and contribute to themselves.
During the course, you will learn from interviews with different lecturers and experts from their respective fields.
This course was developed by the Hogeschool van Amsterdam, the Centre of Expertise for Creative Innovation (CoECI) and Waag Futurelab, and produced by the Digital Society School (DSS).
